In a letter sent to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) on Friday the U.S. Department of Education said Texas should do more to monitor school districts’ compliance with special education law and ensure parents have necessary information in their native languages. 

After dissecting the Corrective Action Plan federal officials are urging Texas to do even more than originally planned to ensure school districts understand how to comply with federal special education law. Federal officials okayed some parts of the plan but still feel Texas needs to do more ensure compliance with federal laws especially when it comes to identification of students who may need special education services.
